Liquid-Filled or Dry
There are some factors to determine which gauge is the right fit for your application.
We will go over when and why you should choose a liquid gauge or a dry gauge.
Why Select a Dry Pressure Gauge?
Dry pressure gauges are mainly used for industrial machines including air compressors, pneumatic systems, HVAC and water applications, etc.
They are suitable for fluid medium which does not clog connection port or corrode copper alloy, environments where mechanical vibrations is not a concern and where there is little to no moisture.
Although dry pressure gauges are typically cheaper than liquid filled pressure gauges, if used in incorrect applications it could cost you more money in the long run.
Why Select a Liquid-Filled pressure Gauge?
Liquid filled pressure gauges offer many advantages over traditional, dry case pressure gauges.
Liquid-filled gauges have longer lives than dry (non-hermetically-sealed) pressure gauges because of their viscous fluid filling.
Internal liquids protect against severe temperature fluctuations and vibrations, because they dampen temperature spikes and vibrations,
Liquid-filled pressure gauges are easier to read, allowing for greater accuracy and process control.
Liquid-filled pressure gauges prevent condensation issues in high-humidity environments. Liquid-filled gauges are designed to prevent moisture from entering not only the body casing but also the inside of the case lens.
They are sealed and constructed to meet rugged specifications, commonly used in highly corrosive chemical processes or in manufacturing or refining processes, and where products must be used in extreme conditions.
Both liquid-filles and dry pressure gauges are available in pressure ranges equal to each other but in some cases liquid gauges can be available in a higher range.
Selecting the correct gauge off the hop is the key to saving you money.
It is always good to be aware of the environment that the gauge is required for to ensure you select the correct one.
It is also good to keep in mind the benefits and the disadvantages of each gauge.
Every operation is different and could require particular gauges.
